Window IV

For March, I created a New York City themed window display for Books of Wonder. It featured popular Manhattan-based character’s from children’s literature, including Harriet the Spy, Eloise, the Pigeon, Marvin the Ape (of Escape of Marvin the Ape), and the Knuffle Bunny crew. The painted stacks of books along the top, in case you can’t tell from the photo, were stacked to form the shape of landmark buildings, the Chrysler, Empire State (formed of other NYC-themed books), and the Plaza Hotel (which doubles as a copy of Eloise). Hilary Knight even stopped in to tell me he “approved”. Huge relief and a huge compliment, to say the least.

Window III

Books of Wonder’s February theme was “Curl Up With a Classic”, promoting beautiful illustrated editions of Maxfield Parish’s Knave of Hearts, Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tales, The Secret Garden, East of the Sun West of the Moon, Tales of Edgar Allan Poe, Little Women, and the Wizard of Oz series amongst others. The “Princess and the Pea” was the central motif here, but you can also spot a “stuffed” Winnie the Pooh, the tortoise reading a copy of Aesop’s Fables, and the Little Prince through the palace window. As before, all pieces were painted with acrylic on foam board.
