swing, crack, thump.

So, I actually had two ideas for last week’s Illustration Friday theme (“cracked”), and this is the other one. A different style silhouette for me, but I think I like it. I’d really like some feedback on the grass in particular, though. With or without? Thinking about adding some shadows later. Right now I need a chai tea latte.

  1. I like it with the grass. very nice Nicole I think you might have somrthing here. I don’t know how you do it but you have so much talent.

  2. Grass one seems to be unanimously preferred. Calvin pointed out that without the grass it looks like she’s riding a broke down tree sled. Which is both funny and true.

  3. I like it with the grass, but a problem that I had was not knowing she was on the ground regardless of there being grass. I thought that she had swung too high, the branch cracked, and that this silhouette captures the moment she realizes she is going down. I think it has something to do with the roots’ depth of field.

On a side note, something very similar to this happened to my sister. A branch did not crack, but the swing seat came free from its hinges which sent my sister to the earth in a similar manner.

  4. hahaha. ah. perhaps i should have (intentionally) illustrated that instead. i agree. this one needs some reworking to make more sense. i was thinking shadows might help out too. thanks, friend eeee!
